2025 marks Summit IT’s 25th anniversary, and we’re celebrating by looking back on a quarter of a century of community involvement. From the very start, Summit IT has been committed to serving Northeast Ohio by not only providing world-class managed IT solutions but also helping local nonprofit organizations. In this article, we’re showcasing a few of the nonprofits we work with and highlighting how they make our community a better place for everyone.

Summit IT’s Commitment to Nonprofits

At Summit IT, we have a big heart for nonprofits. One of the ways we give back is by providing discounted and pro bono services like tailored web solutions to local nonprofits that help support the work they do in our community. We also regularly donate to fundraising campaigns and schedule volunteer events with our team.

Summit IT is proud to champion these wonderful organizations in the greater Akron area and beyond and help them get the most out of their technology. Our full range of IT services allows us to help nonprofits by streamlining their operations, protecting them from cyber threats, and reducing overall costs and downtime. And when nonprofits need software development services, we’re able to provide those as well, eliminating the headache of finding and working with multiple IT providers.

Six Nonprofits We’re Proud to Support

Since 2000, Summit IT has had the pleasure of providing expert IT solutions for nonprofits of all kinds. Supporting nonprofits is an integral part of Summit IT’s business, and we’re always looking for opportunities to help organizations that are making a change in the community. Below are just a few highlights of the partnerships we’ve made over the years.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties is a safe haven for those with mental health concerns. Through peer-based programming and a welcoming, hopeful environment, NAMI aims to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness. It provides all kinds of support from art classes to group picnics so that anyone and everyone with mental illness struggles can find something that’s right for them.

Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation

The Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation is best known for organizing the Akron Marathon Race Series, which includes the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon, and Team Relay. However, the organization’s impact extends far past its races – it’s raised over $6 million for other local and regional charities and continually promotes health and fitness in Summit County. In addition, the Akron Marathon Blue Line Charity Program allows charities to use the Akron Marathon as a fundraiser.

Brain Injury Association of Ohio

Since 1982, the Brain Injury Association of Ohio (BIAOH) has promoted brain injury prevention and advocated for Ohioans affected by brain injuries. According to BIAOH data, 1 in 4 adult Ohioans have incurred a traumatic brain injury at some point. Through education, support groups, a helpline, and more, BIAOH creates better futures for brain injury survivors.

Legacy III

Legacy III provides much-needed housing and social services to homeless women in Summit County. As one of the premier housing organizations in the county, Legacy III focuses on helping women achieve sobriety and maintain recovery through its programming. Legacy III offers transitional housing, rehousing, and permanent housing services to allow participants to live independently and become active participants in their community.

Greenleaf Family Center

Greenleaf Family Center has been aiding families in the Akron area since 1912. The organization offers counseling, education, and support to help families navigate life’s challenges, including pregnancy, mental health issues, and addiction. Greenleaf also has programming for suicide prevention, anger management, and Deaf advocacy.

Humane Society of Summit County

The Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) serves animals that are victims of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. This community-funded organization rescues and rehabilitates area animals and connects them with their forever homes. HSSC’s many services include a mobile veterinary clinic, pet food assistance, dog training, and more. It also operates the Happy Tails Thrift Shop in Merriman Valley, where 100% of proceeds go to HSSC.
